Ridiculous Food Wednesday

Today's ridiculous food is, once again, a product marketed toward children.  Just take a look at the lineup below.  I've seen the making the rounds on Facebook, so I decided to go to my local store to see if this actually exists. (Fact Checking 101)
Ridiculous Food
So, as a I walked down the grocery aisle, I couldn't help but see these cartoony, smiling faces looking back at me.  What I had seen going around Facebook had been very disturbing, and now I was standing in the grocery store looking at this product.  Why is this product disturbing?  No, it's not the creepy cartoon characters staring back at you.  Turn it around and look at the ingredients...

This product is marketed at "Liquid Milk Enhancer".  Think of it as concentrated chocolate syrup that you add to milk to make it taste better.  The website says that the purpose of this product is to get kids to drink more milk.  So, by putting this in your child's glass of milk, they may drink it more readily.  At first, this looks very similar to a traditional chocolate syrup, which is not good, but this is much worse!

Let's turn it around and have a look at the ingredients.

INGREDIENTS:
Propylene Glycol: Wait...what??  I looked this up, and though the FDA says this is safe for use in food, it's other uses include antifreeze, brake, and hydraulic fluid. Unbelieveable...

Caramel Color with Sulfites
Water...whew! Finally something I recognise!
Natural and Artificial Flavor
And the list goes on...

Here's a tip:
If your kids can't pronounce it, you probably shouldn't be giving it to your kids.
If YOU can't pronounce it, you definitely shouldn't be giving it to your kids!

Your turn to sound off.  What do you think about giving this chemical concoction to children?  Leave a comment below or on facebook.

Thanks for reading!
