I'm happy to report that I have been able to stick to my twice a week goal and I have started to make this into a regular habit. It hasn't been hard to do this for two reasons:
1. I am working out at home, at a makeshift gym in our barn/shed.
2. I am sticking to a simple plan that doesn't require any special planning or tracking.
Basically, at any time, I can don my workout clothes walk out to the barn and do my workout. No drive time, no planning, I just go and do it. So, this consistency has been a big win for me.
One thing that I would like to improve as I go along is the intensity of these sessions. Thus far, I've been pretty cautious about my workouts, meaning that I have not pushed myself as hard as I could. Initially, I was trying to avoid injuries, but now I can see that I have held back a little too much and I can probably increase the weight in a few areas to see more results.
5k / 10K Training
Two things have gone much better than expected:
1. I have felt good enough to increase my frequency to 3 times a week!
2. In less than a month, I am very close to my initial 5K goal. (last run was 2.5 miles)
So, as I am moving forward, my new goal is to continue with three times a week and to reach a 10K distance by the end of the summer. I would love to schedule a 10K sometime this fall.
