Most of you know that I'm a teacher, meaning that summer time is a great time for me to try some new diet and exercise habits. Today I'd like to talk about what I hope to accomplish this summer. So, here are my health and weight goals for this summer:
1. Train for and run a 5K (without walking)
While I've been much more active over the past 10 months, I haven't pushed myself as much as I could to achieve better cardiovascular health. So, this summer I'm going to give running a try. This 5K, which I will be scheduling soon, will be my introduction to running.
2. Establish a strength training regimen
I have no interest in becoming "buff" or "ripped" or whatever the terminology is now. Health is my ultimate goal. My main strategy here is to use strength training to avoid muscle loss that comes with weight loss, and to also build enough muscle mass to increase my metabolism. This will help me reach my goal much faster.
3. Weigh less than 240 by the end of summer.
This will take me out of the statistically dangerous "Obese" category for my height. I realize that every pound I lose is increasing my health, but I'm very excited about reaching this milestone.
Ok, those are my goals for the summer. I will keep you updated on how I'm doing throughout he summer.
So, what are your summer health goals? Even if you're not a teacher with a different summer schedule, you should still join me in making some positive health changes over the next few months!
