START SOMETHING RIGHT NOW!!!!
Don't wait until monday, don't pick up another diet book, don't google the latest diet trends, you need to start doing something healthy THIS INSTANT! If you're thinking I'm being a bit harsh, listen to this. I used to do this all the time. Here are some ridiculous things I've done...
- "Planned" to start my diet on a special occasion several weeks down the road like New Years, post birthday, or with a particular season. When the time finally came...I found a reason to put it off.
- Gorged on unhealthy food the weekend before my diet on Monday, only to quit by Wednesday (3 Reasons to Avoid a "Last Meal" Before Your Diet)
- Watched The Biggest Loser on TV (to get extra motivation), while eating a bowl of icecream!
- Read (or skimmed) entire diet books only to find some flaw in the plan and scrap the whole thing.
Stop intending to start a diet someday, and just Start. This begs the question:
My answer to this is to start with the most obvious and then transition into your ultimate plan. Here are 5 things that you can do to drastically increase your level of health and start losing weight immediately.
5 Things To Start Doing TODAY!
1. Eat More Veggies
The timeless advice from Moms everywhere: "Eat your veggies!" is actually fading from our society. Take a look at your current vegetable intake. Are you eating real, whole vegetables or have you slipped into the habit of many americans who consider french fries and pizza as their daily vegetable. The point is that almost no one will tell you that increasing your vegetables is not a good health decision. Do it today!
2. Reduce or Eliminate Refined Sugar
The verdict on sugar is getting worse and worse. Obesity, Metabolic syndrome, Type II Diabetes, Insulin Resistance, Food Addictions, Cardiovascular Disease... The list goes on and on for reasons that sugar is bad for your health. Does sugar have any redeeming qualities? Other than it just tastes good...NO! One sure fire way to prevent sickness and disease is to cut the sugar. There is no real debate about this. Do it today!
3. Drink More Water
Sometimes we don't realise how dehydrated we are until we take steps to intentionally drink more water. I would say that a large majority of people fail to drink an adequate amount of water and are probably chronically dehydrated. This can affect many things such as energy, mood, hunger, etc. Drink a full glass of water right when you wake up in the morning. Then, as you go through your day, make it a point to significantly increase your water intake. Drink more water! Do it today!
4. Cut Out Deep Fried Foods
Have you heard about the new Deep Fried Food Diet? Yeah, me neither. Deep fried foods have no redeeming qualities and are universally considered bad for your health. Along with sugar, this is simply the low hanging fruit of diet choices. It's really a no brainer. Stop eating deep fried foods. Do it today!
5. Don't Overeat
I know that this is easier said than done. A lot of overeaters actually have a food cravings / addiction problem. (Read my story here) Even so, some people intentionally overeat. Skip the buffet, learn to say no to well meaning family members, eat slowly and pay attention to your satiety signals. Only eat when hungry and stop eating when you are full. Such a simple concept but sadly one that needs to be said. Do it today!
I'm serious....START TODAY!
